responsibility for it.  Cherish the people in your life and keep a heart of gratitude and
forgiveness.  Pay attention to how you feel. Fill your body with the right nutrients and
increase your nutrition by eating as many servings of fruits, vegetables and whole grains
daily and drink plenty of water.  Do some form of activity daily.  If authorized by your doctor
considered adding a well balanced
Strength Training routine to your weekly fitness
regimine.  These simple measures can make a huge difference in disease prevention,
enhancing the quality of life and decrease the effects of aging.  Laugh often..laughter is like
medicine for the soul.

SUSAN WATKINS

Specialty: BS, RD, CDE
(Bachelor of Science, Registered Dietitian
and Certified Diabetes Educator)

Education and Professional Experience:
I have been a registered dietitian for about 9 years,
but have been passionate about helping others ever since I can remember.  “There is no
exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up” (John Andrew
Holmes). I sincerely find passion in guiding others to take control of their lives, by
developing healthy eating and thought patterns that can drastically improve ones quality of
life. There is not a person in this world that doesn’t struggle in some area of their life and
for many diet and lifestyle is one of those struggles. Its important to learn to enjoy food,
while at he same time not letting food control you.

Recent Professional Experience:
I have a wide variety of experience as a dietitian. I have experience in community nutrition.
I also have experience as a technical educator and writer for a private label vitamin
company, writing and giving 2 hour seminars to health food store employees and managers
on nutrition in general as well as various vitamin supplements. Two years ago I became a
certified diabetes educator and now work for a hospital outpatient center. I counsel patients
with a wide variety of health needs, such as weight management and celiac disease. I also
teach diabetes classes and blood glucose monitoring instruction. On the side I enjoy writing
nutrition articles for newsletters and magazines.

Other Accomplishments: On a more personal note I am a mother of 2 small girls and while
being a mom is a huge part of my life, I also devote a great deal of time and energy to
health education.

My advice: I try to live by the meaning of this quote, “I can’t do it” never accomplished
anything: “I will try” has accomplished wonders (George P. Burnham).  I believe that a
positive outlook on life is the key to happiness and I try to look for the humor in every
situation. Life is too short to dwell on today’s shortcomings, when we can save our energy
embracing all of today’s little blessings.
